Professor Young-Wan Kim was born and grew up in Seoul, Korea where he obtained his MD degree. Dr. Kim completed his surgery residency at Yonsei University, Severance Hospital, in Seoul, where he obtained his board of general surgery. He continued his training in colorectal surgery at Severance hospital. Dr. Kim defended his Ph.D. in colorectal cancer at Yonsei University, Korea. Dr. Kim was appointed as an assistant professor, then elevated to the associate professor at Yonsei University Wonju College of Medicine in 2011.
Dr. Kim is a member of the Korean Surgical Society, the Korean Society of Coloproctology, the Korean Cancer Association, the Korean Society of Traumatology, the Korean Brest Cancer Society, and the Korean Society for Hospice and Palliative Care. His academic and research interests are in the area of surgery for colorectal cancers, robotic surgery for colorectal cancer, chemotherapy for colorectal cancer, immunotherapy for colorectal cancer, and tumor microenvironment for colorectal cancer. He works as a member of the editorial committee of Annals of Coloproctology, the official journal of the KSCP in 2015. He published over 70 peer-reviewed papers.
