Prof. Minhua Zheng, born in 1963, in shanghai, was given the medical master degree after graduation from the Francophonic filiation of Shanghai Second Medical College in 1986. Owing to his excellent academic performance, he was sponsored by government to go abroad to Strasbourg in France as foreign resident after graduation. During his six years’ residency in France, he was trained to be an experienced surgeon with team spirit and leadership. When he returned to his homeland with ambition and enthusiasm, he helped Shanghai Ruijin Hospital to successfully perform the first laparoscopic cholecystectomy and colon resection of china and set up the technical standard of LC and LCR which make the surgery efficient and assurable. He continued his study after he came back to China, and got doctor’s degree in surgery. Now he assumes the office of vice president of Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, vise director of Ruijin Clinical Medical College, director of the Shanghai Minimally Invasive Surgery Center, and PhD Candidate Supervisor as well. 

As chief of Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Prof. Zheng is also the director of Shanghai Minimally Invasive Surgery Center. He is the president of Chinese Society of Laparo-Endoscopic Surgery (CSLES), governor of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeon of Asia (ELSA), board member of International Federation of Societies of Endoscopic Surgeons (IFSES). As one of the leading experts in minimally invasive surgery of gastrointestinal cancer, Prof. Zheng has been long engaged in clinical and research work. He serves as chief editor of Journal of Laparoscopic Surgery, deputy chief of Asian Journal of Endoscopic Surgery, Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery, Chinese Journal of Minimally Invasive Surgery and corresponding editor of International Journal of Surgery, etc.

Long engaged in clinical and research work of the general surgery, Prof. Zheng specialized especially in field of laparoscopic surgery. Up to now, the types of operations by laparoscopy carried out by his team cover almost the entire surgical field and the number of operations by laparoscopy and endoscopy exceeds 3,500 cases every year. The laparoscopic therapy skill for biliary diseases and colon-rectal carcinoma of his team has been in the lead and advanced level in nation and abroad. His scientific research, teaching and academic exchanges have as well a great influence internationally. Prof. Zheng has published more than 400 papers in periodicals and journals at home and abroad.
