Dr. Takashi Akiyoshi, born in 1974, was given the medical degree after graduation from Kyushu University in 1999. After completing his residency at some major hospitals for five years, he entered Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University in 2004, and received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 2007. He moved to Cancer Institute Hospital in 2007, and he has experienced more than 1000 cases of colorectal surgery. Now he assumes attending surgeon in Colorectal Division, Department of Gastroenterological Surgery, Cancer Institute Hospital.

His area of specialty is laparoscopic surgery, especially laparoscopic extended surgery for colorectal cancer. He has published more than 50 papers as the first author or corresponding author, and more than 30 papers as the co-author in peer-review international journals. He has published many papers on extended surgery including lateral lymph node dissection for rectal cancer, total pelvic exenteration for locally advanced/ recurrent rectal cancer, and multivisceral resection for colorectal cancer. His interest is also in translational research, especially in the prediction of the response to preoperative chemoradiotherapy in rectal cancer. He has been awarded many national and private research grants.
