TY - JOUR AU - Arezzo, Alberto PY - 2018 TI - The role of laparoscopy in acute sigmoid diverticulitis JF - Annals of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgery; Vol 3 (December 2018): Annals of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgery Y2 - 2018 KW - N2 - Laparoscopy has shown benefits in terms of reduced morbidity and mortality and rapid recovery in many different districts of application over the last 30 years. However, the role of laparoscopy in colorectal surgery is still widely debated. After the first declaration of laparoscopic colectomy in 1991 (1), its use was proposed for the treatment of diverticular disease in an elective or emergency context in several reports showing its feasibility since 1996 (2). Some studies have proposed laparoscopy as a more conservative approach to the emergent treatment of patients with complicated diverticular disease (3).
